My daughter, Sarah, is a better feminist than I. Stronger, more consistent, and angrier. That puts her out of step with many of the women of her generation (she’s 34) who reportedly take the hard-won advances of our generation for granted. She sees those same hard-won advances as meager, sometimes even illusory, and at best personal rather than systemic. Her goal is nothing less than the wholesale overhaul of human rights such that they are accessible to and equitably manifest in one and all in every aspect of daily living, regardless of gender, race, creed, sexual orientation, income, or any other marginalizing force. I am learning a lot from her, most recently from her new book, A Church of Her Own: What happens when a woman takes the pulpit. Due in bookstores this month, it’s available now on Amazon.com. I recommend it to you - and not just because I’m a proud mama.
